Biography

David was the son of John Baird and Susannah Frame.

All the Bairds and Frames were strict Presbyterians of the Associate Reformed (Covenanter) sect.

At age 13, David and his family migrated from Fayette County, Pennsylvania to Guernsey County, Ohio.

David married Jane Clegg 12 Sep 1822.[1] Jane was a native of Virginia. To this union were born 12 children, four of which died in infancy. Those who grew to maturity were John, James, Thomas, Finley, Nancy, Susan, Martha, and Mary, who was usually called Molly.

David Baird, with his two married sons, John and James, departed for the West in 1853 along with the Acheson family. The wagon train split up in Illinois, with David remaining in Fulton County for about two years before coming to Iowa in about 1855.

He lived with his son James in 1870.[2]

He lived in Louisa County until 1880. David Baird was in the household of Hamilton Johnston and Martha Baird Johnston.[3]

He died at the home of his daughter Susan in Bayard, Guthrie County.
