Biography

Jacomiah was a Friend (Quaker)

Jacomiah, son of Jacomiah Palmer, was born about 1761 in Nine Partners, Dutchess, New York Colony.

He acknowledged to the Nine Partners monthly meeting on 20d 3m 1782 [20 May 1782] for being "married contrary to the consent of my parents," "excessive drinking [of] spirituous liquors," and using "corrupt language."[1]

Dear friends having been much exercised & concernd for a reformation and prespenty of Truth, I take this opportunity to remind you that I had a right among friends by birth; but by disregarding the light I married contrary to the consent of my Parents and the good order of friends from that fell into many disorders such as excessive drinking spirituous liquors, corrupt Language &c. all which I am heartily sorry sorry for and do condemn, and Pray the Lord to forgave me; and friends restore and watch over me for good; if I may be found worthy, from yuor friend Jacomiah Palmer

He was disowned by the Nine Partners monthly meeting on 14d 3m 1787 [14 May 1787] for "not settling his affairs before he removed."[1]

The 1820 census of Tinmouth, Rutland County, VT, listed Jacamiah Palmer with 1m 16-25, 1m 45+ (himself), 1f 10-15, 1f 16-25, and 1f 26-44.[6]

Jacomiah died on 5 Dec 1847 at Danby, Rutland, VT,[7] and was buried in Staples Cemetery there.[8]
