William Newton was baptised on 17 September 1764 in Swaffham, Norfolk. He, his brother and his sister were illegitimate. Sir Henry Peyton, Baronet, of Narborough Hall, near Swaffham, is thought to have been their father. They might have lived together as a family but officially their mother, Mary Newton, was his housekeeper.
In January 1779, William Newton was apprenticed for 7 years to Thomas Coates of Swaffham, cabinet maker and upholsterer.
On 20 Jan 1793 his first child William Newton, was born. He was baptised on 3 March 1793 but he died young.
In 1798, William Newton became a clerk at the Bank of England (and worked there until 1821). He was living at 12 Red 'Lyon' Square or Street, 'Holbourne'.
On 24 February 1799, a daughter, Elizabeth Newton, was baptised in St. Andrews, Holborn but she died young.
In 1805, 1809 and 1811 he had three more children (see their Wikitree profiles) who were all baptised on 24 May 1812 in St. James, Clerkenwell.
In 1814, he was living at 8 Bayner Road, Clerkenwell.
William Newton's son had seven children, the only known grandchildren. His daughter, Eliza Newton, was a line in 1820 (age 11) but we have no records of marriage or death. His daughter, Caroline Newton, was a bookseller and didn't marry or have any known children.
