He has been called John Steven/Stephen Treadwell, but no evidence of the middle name Stephen is found. He had a brother named Stephen Treadwell. John married Nancy Hensley and Stephen married Nancy Hassell. Perhaps the similarity of names of the wives led some researchers to confuse the two.
