At the time of the 1880 US Census, head of household Henry Smith (age 24, born in TX) with race Mulatto was employed as a Journeyman Blacksmith and living in Cameron, Milam, Texas with his wife M.E.C. Smith (age 25, born in Tennessee); and son W.H. Smith (age 1, born in Texas) with race Mulatto, with race Mulatto. Henry Smith's father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Virginia. MEC's father was born in Tennessee and her mother in Kentucky.

Death and Legacy
On 26 May 1945, Margaret Elizabeth Smith died in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington, USA. Margaret was buried at Tacoma Cemetery in Tacoma, Pierce, Washington, USA. [4]
Margaret's obituary was published in 1945:
Old Tacoma Resident Dies. A resident of Tacoma 50 years and oldest member of Epworth Methodist church, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Smith, 89, died Saturday night at the family home, 1212 North I Street.
Mrs. Smith was the widow of Henry Smith, well known Tacoma Insurance man who died eight years ago. She was a native of Tennessee and a member of the W. C. T. U. nad Fern chapter No. 7, O. E. S.
Mrs Smith is survived by one daughter, Miss Canalise Smith, Tacoma; two sons, Floyd Smith, New Westminster, B. C., and Elihu Smith, Port Townsend, now in the navy in the South Pacific; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Eight grandsons are in the armed forces.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Buckley-King funeral church, the Rev. Martindale Woods officiating. Burial will be in Tacoma cemetery. [5]
