Biography

Andrew was born in 1884 in Nunda Township in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the fifth-born and son of Ole Anderson Turtness and Caroline Olsson Anderson. His family used the Norwegian patronymic version of Ole's family name Anderson and the farm name convention for Turtness interchangeably as their family surname. He grew up on the family farm in Nunda Township, living also for a time in the mid 1880s in Newry Township also in the same county. His mother died in 1896. He and his siblings continued to live with their father on the farm in Nunda, In 1911, at age of 27, he married Clara Louise Sondrol in Silver Lake in Worth County, Iowa. They settled in Nunda Township and had one child together before Andrew died there of TB in 1913 at age 29. He is buried in Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery in Silver Lake, Iowa.

His family was ravaged by tuberculosis, explaining the many deaths of her siblings--including his own--as young adults.
