Biography

Lewis Herman Wallace was born the 22nd of October, 1881^[1] in Tennessee.^[2] His parents were Lewis Wallace and the former Miss Coons.^[3] Between 1917 and 1918, he registed for the draft for World War I.^[4] Lewis passed away the 14th of March, 1933 in a cyclone at near Lebanon, Wilson County, TN.^[1][5] He was buried in Bellwood Cemetery in Bellwood, Wilson County, Tennessee.^[1]

Details of Death

On March 14, 1933, Lewis Herman Wallace was killed in a tornado. His father-in-law, James B. Knight, had been visiting that day. Not long after they lay down, the cyclone struck the old building, blowing a hole in the wall. Out of the hole, Mrs. Wallace and their daughter were drawn by the force of the wind, but the walls fell, penning Minister Knight and Lewis under two feet of brick and timbers. His daughter was injured badly, but his wife went the distance of a mile and a half in her nightclothes to summon help.

After an hour and a half had elapsed, the two men were removed from the wreckage, both of them having been dead for some time. Wallace was about 50 years of age and leaves several children and his wife. He was buried Friday near Lebanon.

In 1900, Lewis was living with his father, his mother, 2 brothers, and his sister in ED 18 Civil District 1, Jackson, Tennessee, United States.^[6] In 1910, Lewis was living with his wife, 3 sons, his brother, and his other household member in Civil District 7, Tennessee.^[2] In 1917, he was living with at least his wife in Red Boiling Springs, Macon, TN.^[4]
