Biography

The names of Mary's parents are not known. Mary was born in 1698 and died in 1782 at the age of 84.^[1]

In Boston, on the 1st of October, 1722, Mary Holegate was wed to Mr. Thomas Moore of Lexington. They lived in Lexington and had at least eight children. Thomas died in 1767 and Mary passed away in Lexington in November of 1782. Her grave is in the Old Burying Ground in Lexington, along with that of Thomas and two of their sons, Charles and Isaac.

Notes

1. Maiden Name - The spelling of Mary's maiden name comes from the 1722 record of her marriage to Thomas Moore. This spelling may not be correct. A more common spelling would have been "Holgate", which was an English family name. ^[2]
2. Date of Death - The gravestone of Mary Moore in the Old Burying Ground in Lexington reads "Here lies the Body of Mrs. Mary Moor, (wife of Mr. Thomas Moore) who died Novr. ye 11th 1782. In the 84th year of her Age." However, the Lexington records give the date of 8 Nov 1782.
