Sometime after 1758 (when Isaiah's youngest sibling was born in Hebron[1]) Isaiah's family moved north from Hebron, Connecticut to Richmond, Berkshire County, Massachusetts -- where Isaiah probably married and started his family and where Isaiah's father died in 1792.[2][3] From the dates and locations of marriage or first deliveries of Isaiah's sisters, it seems likely that the family migrated between 1768[4][5] and 1771.[6]
Service during the Revolutionary War
Isaiah was among the "Minute-men" coming from Lenox, Massachusetts (6 miles east of RIchond) who responded to the "Lexington alarm" of 19 April 1775 and marched 75 miles to surround the British in Boston.[7] As a member of the Berkshire County militia, e subsequently helped reinforce the Northern Army of the Continental force. Isaiah received a pension for his service as a private during the Revolutionary War.[8]
Marriage and children
Isaiah Tilden married Elizabeth ____. Some online genealogical databases state that she was Elizabeth Ellen Daman.[9] All their chidren were born in Richmond beginning in 1781 so it seems likely that the marriage took place in that town about 1780.
In addition, some online genealogical databases say that Irene Tilden was also born to the couple in Richmond on 23 October 1783.
The 1790 census enumerated a household in Richmond headed by Isaiah Tilden and also including 1 boy under age 16 (Rufus ?) and 5 females.[14]
