The vital records prove that Elizabeth Usher, daughter of NH Lt. Gov. John Usher & his 2nd wife Elizabeth Allen, daughter of NH Gov., Samuel Allen, married a Stephen Harris in Boston on April 25, 1728. They had a son also named Stephen, born in Boston on May 15, 1729. Is this the Stephen Harris who married Mary Angier & removed to Fitzwilliam, NH from Framingham, MA in 1771? His gravestone in Fitzwilliam says he was born in 1725 with no specific month & day. If the Stephen Harris on the gravestone in Fitzwilliam was born in 1725 he would have been age 94 when he died vs 90 years old if he was the Stephen born on May 15, 1729 to Stephen Harris & Elizabeth Usher. We know this Stephen was not the son of Stephen Harris and Mary (unknown) of Rowley, MA & Hollis, NH as claimed in many internet genealogies as their son Stephen died in 1756 at age 7.

Stephen Harris Sr. died before Dec 18, 1735 when Elizabeth married Joseph Francis. There is a Stephen Harris listed in the Boston VR's as having died in Boston in 1730. No age given. Is this the husband of Elizabeth Usher & the father of the Stephen who married Mary Angier? More research is needed on all of the above.

Elizabeth Usher, born about 1702 in Boston, Massachusetts, wife of Stephen Harris, Sr., is said to be the daughter of John Usher, Lt Governor of New Hampshire, and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Allen, daughter of Samuel Allen, one time Governor of New Hampshire (no VR proof). John Usher had another daughter named Elizabeth with his 1st wife, Elizabeth Lidgett. That Elizabeth married David Jeffreys and died in 1698. The 2nd Elizabeth (Allen) married Stephen Harris on April 25, 1728 in Boston. They had a son named Stephen, Jr., born on May 15, 1729. A Stephen Harris died in 1730 in Boston. The presumption here, although unproven, is that this Stephen Harris was the 1st husband of Elizabeth Usher. Likely, Elizabeth was living with her sister, Francis Usher Parsons, in Bradford after Stephen died. On December 18, 1735 an Elizabeth Harris married Joseph Francis in Bradford, MA (recorded in the Medord VR's as Joseph Frances was from Medford). The couple had three children. Joseph Francis died in 1749. Elizabeth, his widow, passed away on December 2, 1786 in Medford at about age 84. Her VR death notice described her as " Elizabeth Francis. wid, d. Gov. Usher. old age at 84".
