Lawrence Horton was the second-born son of Thomas Horton and his first wife Margaret Culverwell. He was baptized 22 October 1581 at St James Garlickhithe, the second of four Horton children baptized at this church.[1]
He styled himself as a citizen and mercer, undoubtedly following his father into that profession.[2] [3]
On 26 March 1608, at Stanwell in Middlesex, he married Catherine, daughter of Reginald Hughes, with a bishop's license.[4] [5]
Sadly, Lawrence only lived for another year, dying in 1609. He left a son, Thomas, who became a Doctor of Divinity and President of Queen's College Cambridge.[6]
His Will, dated 28 March 1609, left the first part of his estate to his widow Catherine and the second to his son Thomas Horton. He also named his father Thomas Horton, his wife, brothers Thomas and John, and sisters Elizabeth and Margaret, as well as his father-in-law Reginald Hughes, his wife and children. "And I humbly beseech my father to be good and loving to my wife and child." [3] His will was proved 1 May 1609.[7]
His father Thomas Horton in his 1615 Will, left a bequest of £40 to "Thomas Horton the sonne of Lawrence Horton" when he would reach 21 years of age.[7]
