Hiram Hoag was born 31 Mar 1817 in New York and died 20 Nov 1869 (aged 52) in Calhoun County, Michigan. He was buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek, Calhoun County.

Hiram Hoag died 20 Nov 1869 in Emmett, Calhoun, Michigan. He was married, 52, born in New York to Hutel & Martha Hoag. ^[3]

Research Notes

The ages listed on the 1860 census make it very unlikely that Amanda was the mother of most, if not all of Hiram's children. If Amanda really was 26 in 1860 she would have been about 4 when Andrew was born, 5 for Brett, 8 for Thomas, 10 for Martha, 13 for Mary and 18 for James. James is the only one which would be reasonable, although Martha & Mary are possible. However her grave stone and obituary give her date of birth as 1820. Both are imaged at findagrave. ^[4]

It seems unlikely that Hiram & Amanda had two daughters named Martha who lived to adulthood. Usually a second child was given the same name when one died young. They did have a daughter Mary who married Ethan Lapham and died in 1923, and Mrs Charles Grodavent is mentioned in Amanda's obituary imaged on her findagrave profile. The Martha listed on the 1860 census would have been born c 1844. Perhaps the 1873 dod is a mistranscription for 1843?
