BISHOP MONROSS TUTTLE was born in 1787 in Hartford County, Connecticut. He was a son of Samuel Tuttle of Farmington. He was baptized April 1787 by Rev. Olcott.
Around 1814, Bishop married Rebecca Cooper, a daughter of Asa and Jemima (Pardee) Cooper. Through both branches of her family, Rebecca was a descendant of the Yale family.
March 25, 1834, purchased land from his brother Joel for $80. Parts of military lots #35 and #39 except 20 acres of the eastern end of lot #35 in exchange for 20 acres on the east end of lot #39, both parallel with the east lines. The land being in the 4th quarter of the 9th township in the 9th range of the military district reserved for satisfying revolutionary claims and supposedly containing 100 acres more or less.
June 25, 1834, he took over for Joel as postmaster of Tuttleville until the post office was discontinued a few weeks later on July 16.
The village of Napoleon was platted in 1841 just a little ways southeast.
He passed away April 8, 1875, in Jackson County, Wisconsin.
