Epaphroditus Foot was born in Colchester, Hartford County, Connecticut on Sep 14, 1769. [1] He was the 7th of nine children born to Adonijah Foote and Grace Day in Colchester, Connecticut. [2]
After the Revolutionary war, Epaphroditus joined the wave of migration out of Connecticut in search of available fertile land in upstate New York State areas, heading first to Hamilton (260 miles from Colchester) and then settling in Brookfield 13 miles away.
Epaphroditus had 4 wives (one at a time): Anna Bixley, Sylvia Beebe, Mehitable Douglass and Anna Ives. He was the father of eleven children.
Interested Foote descendants are welcome to add marriage and death dates for his wives as well as names and birthdates of his children from the list on page 110 of Abram Foote's 1907 book cited below.
He died in 1845 and is buried in Bridgewater, New York at Universalist Church Cemetery. [3]
Find A Grave lists his four wives as: [citation needed]
A. Per Wikipedia, the Greek name Epaphroditus was a New Testament figure appearing as an envoy of the Philippian church to assist the Apostle Paul in prison in Rome (see Philippians 2:25-30).
B. Other New and Old Testament names among the siblings of Epaphroditus strongly suggest that the Colchester Congregational church experienced a revival during the decades preceding the Revolutionary War.
