John was born in 1875. He passed away in 1942. John is buried at the Mars Hill Cemetery, Atlanta, Winn Parish, Louisiana. John L. Calhoun was prominent in Winn Parish political and civic circles. He served as vice-president of the First National Bank, was elected a member of the Board of Alderman of the town and appointed to represent Winn Parish on the board. He was commissioned a justice of the peace and notary public.
