Ida was born in 1926. She was the daughter of Stanley Hall and Bessie Campbell. She passed away in 2012.
The world's biggest heart finally gave out on Christmas Day. When you share as much of it as Pat did, it's no wonder. She spent 86 years caring for those around her and now she gets some well-deserved rest. Pat was born May 30, 1926, in Waverly, Nebraska to Stanley and Bessie Hall and was the youngest of four children. Her family left Nebraska for Oregon, stopped in Nampa to earn money for gas, and never left. Her mom and dad farmed in the Melba area so she grew up knowing you live off the land and she never stopped doing that. No fruit or vegetable was ever safe from her prolific canning operation every summer. She kept everyone supplied with jars of everything, often putting up 700-800 jars every year. Famous for her pickled asparagus, she helped put up one last batch last spring, and she had one last fishing trip this fall with her sons, catching the most trout and the biggest. She graduated from Kuna High School in 1944, where she excelled in softball, basketball, and ping-pong. She met Ralph Toney at a USO dance in Nampa in 1944 while he was stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base. He hitchhiked to Nampa almost every week, hoping he could win the heart of this beautiful blonde. He did and they were married July 8, 1945. Their son Richard was born in 1946 and son David in 1948. Pat worked off and on at the Boise Hotel while raising her two sons, finishing as banquet manager. But mostly, she loved being a wife and mother. She and Ralph attended untold numbers of football, baseball, wrestling, basketball, and track events through their sons' high school and college years. Pat and Ralph were both active in the Shrine organization and participated in numerous clubs and groups. They were lifetime supporters of Boise State and had 50-yard-line tickets in the new stadium for many years. They were garage sale fanatics after retirement and our mom's philosophy was you could never have too many Corningware casserole dishes or cut glass candy dishes (they only cost 50 cents). We all got to enjoy the fruits of their bargaining power whether we needed the items or not. In death Pat has joined her parents, sister Marie, brother Don, and daughter, Mary Elizabeth, who died in infancy. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Ralph; her two sons, Rich (Patty) Toney and Dave (Lisa) Toney; grandchildren, Brad (Chris) Toney, of Seattle, Kathy Toney, of Portland, Eric (Brandy) Toney, of Meridian, and Tammy (Dennis) Paul, of Boise; great-grandchildren, Serena and Elise Toney, of Seattle, Evan, Logan, and Dylan Toney, of Meridian, and Peyton, Carson and Sydney Paul, of Boise; her brother, Mike Hall, of Kuna; and a multitude of nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. Family reunions were always an adventure. Dave and Lisa graciously cared for Pat and Ralph in their home for the last two and half years, allowing her a much fuller end of life. The family would like to thank Pat's dear friends, Ralph and Joyce Nichol and Rosie Williams, for their long time support, and St. Luke's Hospice nurse Chris and CNA Kiley for their kind care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Shriners' Hospital for Children, % El Korah Temple, 1118 W. Idaho St., Boise, ID 83702-5624. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock, Boise. A lunch reception will follow at the El Korah Temple across the street from Summers. Burial will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
