A wedding that created widespread interest, especially in the Logan district, where both bride and bridegroom are well known, took place on Wednesday week. Owing to the wet weather the ceremony was performed in the drawing-room of Tarnrookum instead of at St. Thomas' Church, Beaudesert, as was previously arranged. The bridegroom, Mr. De Burgh Bannatyne Bentinck Persse, is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. De Burgh Persse (Tabragalba), and the bride, Miss Fannie Martin Collins, is the fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. DEATH of de B. PERSSE
Grazier, businessman, sincere church man, keen sport, lover of animals, particularly horse flesh, pleasant personality, and good friend to many. Mr. de Burgh Bannatyne Bentinck Persse, of Wyambin, son of the late Mr. de Burgh Persse, who originally selected Tabragalba Station, suddenly collapsed, and died, in a Brisbane private hospital yesterday morning, a day off his 67th birthday.
Mr. Persse was particularly well known as a result of his many activities. He was born at Tabragalba, but travelled a good deal in his younger days, making several trips to the ancestral home in Ireland — Moyode Castle, County Galway.
He spent some time at Hawkwood station, near Mundubbera, that property being owned by the family at the time.
Horses owned and bred by Mr. Persse were raced in the Beaudesert District, and in Brisbane well over 30 years ago.
Deceased married Miss Fanny Martin Collins, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Collins of Tamrookum, who predeceased him. Members of the family are: Mesdames Tuxford Howe (Southport), F. Glynn Connolly (Brlsbane), Messrs. Burton (Wyambin), Desmond (Eurra, Warra), Robert (Nindooinbah), and John (Beaudesert).
Mr. Persse had been in indifferent health in recent years, but was always active and alert. He was in hospital for about a fortnight.
Positions held Included chairman of directors of both the Q.M.E. and A.S.B., Raoub Australian Goldmining, and he was on the board of the National Bank of Australasia Ltd.
A service will be conducted in All Saints Church of England, Tamrookum this morning at 11 a.m. by the Rev. H. W. Griffiths, and the remains will be laid to rest in the church grounds where Mrs. Persse was buried, following her death in 1944.[6]
Death Of Mr. de B. Persse
Mr. de Burgh B. B. Persse, of Wyambyn Station, Beaudesert, died in a Brisbane private hospital yesterday morning, the day before
his birthday anniversary. He was 66.
Mr. de Burgh Persse was chairman of directors of the Raub Australian Gold Mining Company, and of the Queensland Meat Export Company and Australian Stockbreeders' Co., and was also on the advisory board of the National Bank of Australasia, Ltd.
He was born in 1881 at Tabragalba station, Beaudesert, where his father was one of the original selectors. He was a keen race-goer, and bred and raced a number of horses.
His wife, formerly Miss Fanny Martin Collins, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Collins, of Tamrookum station, died in 1944.
He has left two daughters—Mrs. Frank Glynn Connolly and Mrs. W. Tuxford Howe,—four sons— Messrs. Robert, Burton, Desmond, and John de Burgh Persse—and five grandchildren.[7]
He was buried at Tamrookum Anglican Cemetery, Tamrookum, Scenic Rim Region, Queensland.[8]
GRAZIER'S ESTATE
Mr. De Burgh Bannatyne Bentinck Persse, a grazier at Wyambyn, Beaudesert, who died in December, 1947, left to relatives an estate of £3106 gross realty and £12,095 gross personalty. His will has been admitted to probate.[9]
