Violet was born in 1927 in Guilford County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Joseph Minor and Mozelle Willett.
When she was 19 she married Tracy Lee Harvell in High Point, North Carolina. They had one daughter together before divorcing. (No records of the divorce have been found.) In 1955 she married Wayland Clarence McPherson, Jr. in High Point. They had three children together, a boy, and two girls.
She passed away in 2009 in Pleasant Garden, North Carolina, and was buried in Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, North Carolina.
