Richard was born on 14 September 1857 in the Sydney district of the Colony of New South Wales. He was the son of George Ball and Ann Ball.[1]

Richard, son of George Ball, married Esther Arnold on 6 May 1880.[2][3]

The widowed Richard married Lillie May Hume (maiden name Gettens) in 1926 in the Petersham district.[4]

Richard Thomas Ball, M.L.A. of 33 Livingstone Road and his wife Lillie May, home duties were registered to vote in 1930 in Lewisham, Lang, New South Wales, Australia.[5]

The Hon. R T Ball, M.L.A was the Minister for Works, Railways and State Industrizal Enterprises and played a big part in securing the contract for the NorthShore Bridge as mentioned in the The Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers Advocate on 8 March 1924 in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.[6]

Richard died on 30 October 1937 at their home "Woodlands" as mentioned in the The Labor Daily on 1 November 1937 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.[7] Their estate passed probate on 20 May 1938 in Petersham, New South Wales, Australia.[8] He was accorded a state funeral as mentioned in the The Corowa Free Press on 2 November 1937 in New South Wales, Australia.[9]
