John Curson of Kedleston, Derbyshire, married Eleanor, the daughter and heir of Sir Robert Twyford, knight.[1]
His son John Curson had succeeded as lord of the Kedleston estate by 1370.[2]
Research Notes
Thomas son of Stephen le Curson of Breadsall, Derbyshire, presented to the living of Breadsall in 1361.[3] Breadsall was later the possession of John Curson of Kedleston's grandson Thomas Curson (abt.1395-) of Bulcote, Nottinghamshire. It was disputed in the early 1500s between Avery Berwyke of Bulcote and John Curzon of Kedleston.
According to Magna Britannia,
Sir John of Kedleston, who married the heiress of Twyford, and was the ninth in descent after the separation of the Kedleston branch from the Curzon of Croxall family, was common ancestor of:
Lord Scarsdale;
Lord Curzon;
Sir Robert Curzon, who had no issue and was in 1500 created a Baron of the Empire by Emperor Maximilian;
the Curzons of Letheringset, Norfolk; and
the extinct Curzons of Water-Perry in Oxfordshire.[4]
However, the Cursons of Letheringsett, Norfolk, do not appear to be related: they descend from Philip Curson (d. 1504), a Norwich merchant and alderman of the City of London, son of a Walter Curson.[5]
Le Vile's interest came to Philip Curson of Letheringset, (son of Walter) alderman of London, by Agnes his second wife, daughter and heir of John le Veile: this Philip, by testament dated the 24th of June, 1502, bequeaths his body to be buried in this church: his son John left by Frances his wife, daughter of John Wingfeld of Dunham Magna, Norfolk, a son John, who married Dorothy, daughter of Henry Walpote, Esq. of Harpley, and died in 1558.[6]
