Biography

Mary was born in 1861 in Hungary. Little is known of her family, other than she had a brother named Joseph J. Mamrus who also emigrated to Connecticut.

The earliest record I have found of John and his wife Mary (Mamrus) is the 1900 census for Bridgeport. They appear to live on Pine Street with their 5 children - John, born approx 1884 in Hungary, Anna, born approx 1886 in Hungary, and the younger children, Joseph born 1891 in Bridgeport, followed by Steven in 1894, and Mary in 1898. John's brother Frank is also shown to be living with the family. John Sr, John Jr, and and Frank are listed as shear grinders.

In August 2023, a signed affidavit was found by Mary stating that her maiden name was Maria Omrutz. I have a copy if any family member would like - please message me. The only other documents I have seen with Mary's name on them show "Mamrus" which also reflects the DNA matches shared on ancestry. Perhaps Mamrus was the English version?
