Emily was born in 1872 - [1] the eldest child of Freddie Preece and Agnes Thom
Emily married Richard Simmonds Smith [2]in Coromandel in 1889
Richard and Emily had seven children.
The irregularity in the Family names comes about by Emily's spouse Richard who was Registered as SMITH ( which was his Mothers Family Name) adding Simmonds to his name, somewhere after the 1881 Census and his arrival in New Zealand.
A Change of Name by Deed Poll to just Simmonds was effected early 1898.
She passed away in 1925.
