Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch Major League Baseball Player. Born Evan Tracy Stallard, he pitched for Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and St. Louis Cardinals from 1960 to 1966. He is best remembered as the pitcher who gave up New York Yankees' slugger Roger Maris' record breaking 61st home run in 1961. He began his baseball career in the Boston Red Sox farm system and was called up to the main club in 1960, when he only pitched in four games. His first full season came the next year and he was the starting pitcher in fourteen games and came in relief in 28 games. His biggest notoriety came that season when on October 1, 1961, he gave up the pitch to Roger Maris that broke Babe Ruth's season home run record of 60. In 1962 he pitched one game for the Red Sox before being sent down to the minors. He was dealt by the Red Sox to the New York Mets in December of 1962 and pitched for the Mets for two seasons. During his tenure with the Mets, he was the losing pitcher in Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jim Bunning's perfect game on June 21, 1964. In December of 1964 he was dealt to the St. Louis Cardinals and pitched for them for the next two years. After his tenure with the Cardinals, he played in the minors until retiring from baseball in 1973. During his Major League career, he was 30-57 with 4.17 ERA and 477 strikeouts. After retiring from baseball, he worked in both the construction and mining industries.
