Matija was born in1848 in Split Dalmatia. Matija was baptised Roman Catholic, in the Catholic Diocese Vrgorcu, Croatia on November 23rd 1882 (likely immediately before on on the same day as her first born child). Matija and her husband Ivan had 7 children[1][2]

Ivan Ujdurand Matija Maršić were married sometime prior to 1864 in Prapatnice, Gradac, Split Dalmatia.[3]

Ivan & Matija ha seven children , 2 daughters & 5 sons. 4 of these sons migrated to NZ leaving the youngest son Petar (1900-1946) at home with his parents Matija and Ivan. Matija passed away in 1934.
