Catherine, born perhaps circa 1690 in Edinburgh, Scotland, was the only daughter of Alexander Tait, a merchant in Edinburgh. She was the second wife of William Blair, Esq., formerly William Scot, second son of John Scot of Mallenie in Stirlingshire, Scotland.[1]
Catherine and William had issue five sons and seven daughters, listed by James Paterson in his history of Ayrshire as follows:
Hamilton Blair, born perhaps circa 1715, who succeeded his older half-brother William as Laird of Blair in Ayrshire and was ancestor of the later Blairs of Blair.
Alexander Blair, Surveyor of Customs at Port Glasgow, m. Elizabeth Hamilton, had issue.
Capt. John Blair, killed at the Battle of Minden, 1 Aug. 1759.
Thomas Blair, a Coronet in the Scots Greys, killed at the Battle of Valdt in 1747.
Lieut. William Blair, killed in a battle with Native Americans at Oswego, New York, in 1756.
Anne Blair, m. David Blair of Adamton, had issue.
Magdalene Blair, m. Sir William Maxwell of Monreith, had issue.[1][2]
Janet Blair, m. Alexander Tait, a Principal Clerk of Session, had issue.
Barbara Blair, m. William Fullarton of that Ilk, had issue.
