James was born in 1872 in Tipperary. In the 1901 census he was a boarder in the Byron household in Dromomarka College and was described as an engine fitter. He was a dairy engineer. He married Catherine Lunney in 1911 and Honora Doody in 1920. He passed away in 1951.
All of the other Harold brothers are ruled out as James Nolan father due to DNA matches from their descendents having too little shared DNA or them being too young at the time of conception. The only exception is Richard and Joseph. Richard can be presumed to be out of the country at the time as records from 1896 would indicate he was in the Royal Engineers and in London and in 1901 he does not appear on the Irish census. In the 1901 census Joseph Harold was a hotel worker in Limerick city and was 19 years old. James Harold was an engine fitter boarding in rural Tipperary (Templeneiry) at the time, and he may have given his name to James Nolan. Hanora Nolan was in Rearcross, Tipperary at the time of the census and was probably recently pregnant at the time of the census.
