Biography
Parsetta or Parizetta “Zettie” Cope was born on 10 June 1859 in White County, Tennessee, according to her death cert. [1] Her given name is seen in many other variations: Pharzetta, etc.
She married Greenberry "Berry" Slatten on 09 September 1876 in Sparta, White County, Tennessee. [2]
Parisetta (Cope) Slatton married her deceased husband's first cousin, William D. Slatton, on 16 Aug 1923. [3] She would have deceased carrying the same married surname from each husband.
"Parazettie Slatten" passed away on 11 January 1944 in White County, Tennessee. According to her death cert, she was widowed, her father was Jim Cope, mother Nancy Harris, and her spouse was named as Berry Slatten. The informant was Cleve Slatton, a son of hers by Greenberry "Berry."[1]
Research Notes
Census suggests her as the daughter of James Madison Cope and Sarah Ann (McGarr) Cope. [4] [5] but her death cert, informed by her son, Cleve Slatton, names her mother as Nancy Harris [1], which reflects a later marriage for Zettie's father, to Nancy Jane (Harris) Cope (1844-1925).
