Biography

John Gardner Welch, fourth child of Albert Welch and Sarah B. Randolph Welch was born on a farm in Randolph Township, Ill. When young he moved with his parents to Bloomington, Ill. where he engaged in the grocery business with his father. He was in this and the clothing business until he retired from active business. He was quite active in city politics., being alderman of the Third Ward and commissioner and at the time of his death he was acting as Probation Officer, receiving the appointment through Judge Berry. He acted on many important Council Boards, one of these being the Park Board and another the Water Board. He passed away June 23, 1929. He and his wife are entombed in the Mausoleum at Park Hill Cemetery at Bloomington, IL.

On April 4, 1878, he was united in marriage to Mary A. King (born Oct 1, 1858; died Feb 6, 1925) in Bloomington, Ill.

There were two children born to this union:

• Howard Unn Welch
• A daughter who died at birth
