Biography

Catherine (Hopkins) Reese was born in Glamorgan, Wales.

Catherine Hopkins was born on 2 February 1837 in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales and may have been known as Catws. ^[1] Her parents were Jenkin Hopkins and Elizabeth (Phillips) Hopkins.

In the 1841 census Catharine (age 3) was living in Llan fabon, Glamorgan, Wales.^[2]

In the 1851 census Catherine (age 13) was the daughter of Jenkin Hopkin in Glamorgan, Wales.^[3]

Catherine's marriage to Phillip Rees was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1861 in the Merthyr Tydfil district.^[4]

After having five children, the family migrated to Pennsylvania, United States around 1870/1871.

Five children born in Wales:

• Rees Rees;
• Griffith Rees;
• Thomas Rees;
• Phillip John Rees; and
• Mary Ann Rees.

After settling in the United States, Phillip and Catherine had another four children:

• William Rees;

In the 1900 census Cathi (age 63) was the wife of Philip Reese in Scranton Ward 15, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania.^[6]

In the 1910 census Catherine (age 73) was the wife of Phillip Reese in Scranton Ward 15, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, United States.^[7]

Catherine passed away aged 78 on 7 May 1915 in Scranton, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, United States and she was buried in Washburn Street Cemetery. ^[8]
