Biography

Abigail Lovell was born on November 17, 1753, in Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony. She was the daughter of Daniel Lovell and Sarah Beetle.

On January 27, 1776, in Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony, she married Simeon Freeman.[1] Their children were:[2]

  1. Prince, born July 7, 1779; married Phebe Crosby
  2. Sally Lovell, born June 1, 1781; married John Winslow
  3. Simeon, born March 24, 1784; married Eliza Bacon; died October 1853
  4. Nabby Lovell, born September 26, 1789; married Timothy Baker
  5. Gorham Lovell, born August 9, 1791; married Mary Kendall

In her father's will, dated July 30, 1785, she was bequeathed two pounds, her name having been written as Abigail Freeman.[3]

Abigail died on June 6, 1827.[4] She is buried in the Old Burying Ground in Brewster, Massachusetts. Her gravestone has inscribed "Wife of Capt. Simeon Freeman". Also on the stone is inscribed the following:[4]

The months of affliction are o'er,
The days & the nights of distress
We see her in anguish no more,
She's gained her happy release.
