Biography

Leota was born in 1876. She is the daughter of Alexander Cornman and Elizabeth Norris.

The 1880 census shows Leota, age 4, in the household of her parents in Decatur, Macon, Illinois, United States, with four older siblings and a cousin.[1]

in 1910, she was living with her mother, sister, brother-in-law in a household that included six boarders.[2].

Her mother’s obituary, in 1921, refers to her as “Miss Leota Cornman”, and gives her residence as “Decatur”. Leota would have been about 45 years old When her mother died. [3]

The 1940 census shows Leota (“Leata Carnman” in the transcription) living in the household of her brother, James F. Cornman, in Cuba, Benton Township, Crawford, Missouri, United States. Her age is givens as 63.[4]

The records suggest suggest that she never married.
