Biography

When Doctor Pearson was born on April 17, 1787, in Franklin, Virginia, his father, Sherwood Pearson, was 45 and his mother, Elizabeth Ligon, was 37.

He married Phebe Rives Brown on October 12, 1814 in Franklin County, Virginia. They were parents of one daughter. Phebe died in 1816.

Doctor then married Lovey Lovice Smith (AKA Lovey Foster or Freelove) on Feb 1820 in McMinn, Tennessee. They were parents of seven children.

He died on September 4, 1833, in McMinn, Tennessee, at the age of 46.

Sherwood Pearson 1816 Will

In his father's 1816 Will, Sherwood Pearson bequeathed: "Item I give to my son DOCTOR PEERSON one Negro boy named Yorrick to him and his heirs forever –;

Item I lend to my well beloved wife ELIZABETH PEERSON during her natural life, under the agency and management of Mastin Peerson the tract of land whereon I now live together with the plantation, utensils, household & kitchen furniture & all my stock of every description whatsoever with the following slaves Viz. Easther, Miner, Isaac, Squire, Lucy, Jug, Patience, Lidia, Luris, Seney & Dick for a general stock to be managed by Mastin Peerson as aforesaid for the maintenance of my wife and the youngest children and should my wife Elizabeth Peerson die before my youngest son William becomes of age the above property is still to be held by Mastin Peerson until my son William becomes of lawfull age for the purposes above mentioned. When a general division is to take place and all the property consisting of negroes and stock to be divided as hereafter proscribed Viz. to all of the property that I have hereafter lent unto my wife together with its increase be equally divided amongst my sons Vis: RICHMOND, MASTIN, THOMAS, DOCTOR, CHARLES, & WILLIAM PEERSON making deduction with those who have here before to received stock of any kind."

WILL FILED:McMinn County, Tennessee Will Book B Sept. 1830 to Mar 1838 and also Wills & Estate Records of McMinn County, Tennessee 1820-1870 Doctor Pearson Will, page 123-124 Inventory page 135 WILL OF DOCTOR PEARSON I, Doctor Pearson, being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First, I wish all my just debts paid out of my personal property, that is to say out of my cattle and horses should there be a stock sufficient to discharge my debts to be lawfully sold by my Executors hereafter to be mentioned and should it be insufficient to satisfy the demands against my estate any other articles or articles that my family can best spare until all is satisfied.

Secondly, I wish all the remainder part of my personal property to be kept together until my youngest son Charles Maston Pearson arrives to the age of twenty one years and then to be equally distributed share and share alike to all my lawfull heirs.

Thirdly, as to my real estate that is to say my land, I leave it for the support of my helpless family until the above mentioned Charles Mastin Pearson arrives to the aforesaid age of twenty one years and then for my heirs to make an equal division betwixt themselves, share and share alike. Each one to have and to hold their equal share forever.

Fourthly, I appoint my beloved Lovy Pearson and John Foster, my executors to this my last will and testament. Hereby revoking all former will or wills by me.

In witness thereof, I set unto with my hand and seal this 4th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and thirty three.
