Biography
Eliza Jane Curtis was born 11 Oct 1854 in Monroe, Waldo, Maine. She was the daughter of Simeon Curtis and Hannah Lawrence.[1][2]
Eliza's father, Simeon Curtis, died on 7 December 1859, when Eliza was just 5 yrs. old.[3]
On the 1860 U.S. Census for Monroe, Waldo, Maine, Eliza J. was 5 yrs. old. Her brother Jeremiah was 7 yrs. old. Their mother, Hannah D. Curtis was 45 yrs. old. They were living with her step-son, Isaac Curtis & his wife Mary E. Curtis.[4]
On the 1870 U.S. Census for Monroe, Waldo, Maine, Eliza was 15 yrs. old. Her brother, Jeremiah, was 17 years old & a farm laborer. Their mother Hannah was 55 yrs. old and they were living next door to Hannah's step-son, Isaac & his wife, Mary.[5]
Eliza J. Curtis married James W. Knowlton on 30 May 1875 in Brooks, Waldo, Maine.[6]
