Andrew Cookson was born in the Cherokee Nation in 1853. He was the son of John Cookson and Elizabeth "Betsy" Adair, both Cherokee. [1] He married Mary Jane Carlile, also Cherokee, in 1876. They were the parents of Elizabeth "Lizzie", Henrietta (died in infancy), John (died in infancy), Geneva Lila (died in infancy),[2] Maggie, Levi, Mary Ada, and Annie. [3]

Andrew was enrolled by the Dawes Commission in 1902 [4] and was approved for a share of the Eastern Cherokee (Guion Miller) payment in 1907. [5] Mary died in 1894; Andrew married Lydia Lovett in 1908. [6] He passed away in 1913 and is buried at the Levi Cookson Cemetery, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. [7]
