John was the son of Thomas Caly, who describes himself in his 1656 will as late of Heathfield, Sussex. He was named in the will, and was under age when it was made in 1656. The order in which children were listed in the will suggests that he was his father's third son. The will entrusted him to the care of his older brother Thomas until he came of age.[1][2]
John was left £10 in the will of his brother George, dated 29 April 1667, so he must have been alive then. The terms of the will indicate that he had attained 21 before then, so he must have been born no later than April 1646.[3]
Research Notes
A John Keyley, son of Thomas, baptised at Heathfield, Sussex on 4 May 1634,[4] cannot be the john of this profile who was under 21 in 1656.He may be an older brother who died in infancy.
