Biography

Leslie Beauchamp Maunsell was born in 1893. He was the third son of Frederick Maunsell and Emma Beauchamp. [1]

He enlisted and was gassed in May 1916 and wounded in the chest in October. [2] [3] At this time he was awarded the Military Cross. [4]

In 1917 he married Catherine Martyn-Johns. [5]

At St. Mark's Church, Little Common, on August 25th, Leslie Beauchamp Maunsell, M.C., Machine-gun Corps, was married to Catherine Jane Martyn-Johns (Katie), second daughter of the late Mr Thomas Martyn-Johns, of Trevella, Crantock, Cornwall, and Mrs Martyn-Johns, of Fairholme, Little Common, Bexhill. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. B. Martyn-Johns, brother of the bride, assisted by the Rev. M. B. Stuart-Fox, rector. The wedding was a very quiet one, only relatives being present. Lieutenant Maunsell has sufficiently recovered from his severe wounds to undertake light military duty and he is at the Grantham Camp. In all likelihood he will be passed fit for active service in the course of a couple of months. [6]

Along with Hansen, a chemist, Leslie established the Hansells factory in Masterton.

He passed away in 1953, aged 59. [7] He is buried in Masterton cemetery. [8]

MAUNSELL, Leslie Beauchamp—On August 18, 1953, loved husband of Catherine Jane Maunsell. of Milford, Masterton; in his 60th year. [9]
