George Edgar Wentworth married Susan "Susie" Wetherbee Parker at Lowell, Massachuisetts, on 19 Mar 1864.[3][1] In 1865, George E. Wentworth, 23, soldier, and Susan W. Wentworth, 23, were living with Susan's widowed mother and other members of her family at Lowell.[4] In 1870, George E. Wentworth, 28, U.S. Marshal, and Susan Wentworth, 28, were living at Pensacola, Florida, with a one-year-old daughter and a nurse.[5] In 1880, George E. Wentworth, 38, Clerk, U. S. C., and Susan Wentworth, 38, were living at Pensacola with five children, ages one to 11.[6]
Civil War Service
During the American Civil War, George Edgar Wentworth enlisted in the 30th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment] on 2 Oct 1861. On 19 Jan 1864, he was made captain of the 4th Louisiana Native Guards, a regiment of African-American troops. He was later made lieutenant colonel of the 82nd Colored Infantry Regiment. He mustered out of the Army on 22 Sep 1866.[1]
Political Career
George Edgar Wentworth was elected to the Florida State Senate in 1868. In 1869, he was appointed the United States Marshal for the Northern District of Florida.[1]
Death
The gravestone of George E. Wentworth at Saint John's Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida, says that he was born on 14 Mar 1842 and died on 14 Oct 1881, aged 39 years, 7 months.[7]
