WORCESTER- Anna A. (Holland) Smith, formerly of 70 Coolidge Road, died Monday, May 5, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.
Her husband of more than 50 years, Maurice E. Smith, died in 1978. She leaves three daughters, Ann Duffy and Margaret McLean, both of Worcester, and Mary Sabin of Boylston; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Ten brothers and sisters predeceased her. She was born in Acton, New Brunswick, the daughter of Jeremiah and Archangel (Chessie) Holland, and moved to Worcester in the early 1920s. She graduated from Fredericton Provincial Normal School in New Brunswick.
Mrs. Smith was a principal at the Thersetta School in Claresholm, Canada, and later taught seventh grade in Auburn before her marriage. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and its Women's Guild. She belonged to the WPI Women's Club, the Foreign Policy Association of Worcester; the Worcester Art Museum and the Pen Women of America. She loved hats and trips to Canada.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, May 7, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. A calling period will be held from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in the funeral home.
