James was born in 1865 to Jordan Pinkerton and Catherine Wilhelm; Find-A-Grave has 1855 listed - but his parents were not married until 1863 and he does not show up in their household until the 1870 Census in which he is listed as being five years of age.[1] His mother passed away sometime after the 1870 Census but before his father was remarried in October of 1875. He is listed in the home of his paternal grandfather; James Harvey Pinkerton, on the 1880 Census.[2] In August of 1884 he married Melie Sanderson in Tennessee.[3] By the time of the 1910 Census James and Mealie/Melie are listed as divorced and in separate households.[4] James is listed alone and Melie is listed under her maiden name (spelled Mealie Sanderson) with six of their children and a granddaughter in her residence (Ruth, Lucille, James, Leara, Nellie, and her daughter Mabel, and Maggie). Melie passed away in 1915 and James was remarried to Lettie McIntosh on March 23, 1918, in Mayfield, Graves, Kentucky.[5] He is listed with Lettie on the 1920 Census.[6] He passed away in 1953.[7][8]
