Biography

Christian Hogarth was born in 1790 in Channelkirk, Berwickshire, Scotland. She was one of ten children born to Robert Hogarth and his wife Mary Scott. ^[1]

Christian's eldest brother George Hogarth was a Scottish lawyer, newspaper editor, music critic, and musicologist. He authored several books on opera and Victorian musical life in addition to contributing articles to various publications. ^{[2] [3]}

In 1781, she married James Ballantyne, printer and publisher to Sir Walter Scott. ^[4] Their son James Alexander Ballantyne was born 29 Dec 1816 in Edinburgh. ^[5]

Christian died in Edinburgh in 1828 aged 37.
