Biography
Buxton Perry is a part of US Black heritage.
Buxton ("Buck") was born into slavery about 1857 in North Carolina. .According to his sister Celia in an interview in 1937, their father Henderson Perry was a blacksmith and a slave of Dr. WIley Perry. Their mother Peggy was a slave of a Mr. McKnight, who owned an adjoining plantation.
One of Celia's memories was when the Yankees came during the Civil War. She recalls
"I member when de Yankees came ter my mother's house on de McKnight plantation near Louisburg an' dey went into her things. When de Yankees came down my brother Buck Perry drug me under the bed and tole me to lie still or the Yankees would ketch me. I member de sweet music dey played an' de way dey beat de drums."
After the war Buck married Lucy Malone in 1879 in Franklin County, North Carolina. In 1900 they were farming in Franklinton, Franklin County with 4 children in the household.
Buck passed away in 1928 and was buried in Manasseh Chapel Church Cemetery in Franklinton.
