Based on his estimated date of marriage (1605), Nicholas was probably born sometime in 1575-1585, with about 1580 being a reasonable midpoint estimate. It is, however, reasonably plausible that Nicholas was the Nicholas Lobdell, son of John Lobdell, who was baptized in Eastbourne, Sussex on 5 June 1575,[1] as the date of baptism fits (barely) with the estimated date range for Nicholas' birth and Eastbourne is only 17 miles from Hastings.
Nicholas married a woman named Margaret. Based on the estimated date of birth their eldest child, they were probably married about 1605.
Nicholas and Margaret had the following children, all baptized at St. Clement in Hastings:
Nicholas' wife, Margaret, was buried on 15 July 1622 at St. Clement, Hastings.[9]
In July 1616, Robt. Cochrane petitioned Lord Zouch to hear a case between him and Nich. Lobdell, of Hastings, long pending in the Court of Chancery at Dover.[10]
Nicholas was probably the Nicholas Lobden, a retainer of Capt. James Lasher, Baron to the Parliament, who, in 1621, was arrested on a plea of debt and who was pardoned on letters by Sir Thomas Richardson.[11]
