Biography

George was born in 1843. He was the son of Benjamin Hasbrouck and Eliza Dillon. He passed away in 1892.
"In early life Mr. Hasbrouck went west, and with Gen Fitz John Porter, was largely interested in mining operations in Colorado. He presided over the Miners' meeting held at Georgetown, Colorado, now a flourishing city, now named for him. On his return east, he adopted journalism as a profession and for many years had control of the news department of the New York Herald, from New York to Albany, and later became a member of the Editorial Staff of that paper. He was an able and versatile writer, and up to the few months before his death, was a general contributor to all the New York dailies, and also to Puck and Judge. His last work, a short humorous story, was accepted by Harpers Magazine a few weeks ago. Of late he had given some attention to dramatic work, in which direction he showed marked power. He was dramatic critic for the New York Sun. He was a man of fine presence and of genial, generous disposition."^[1]
