One of the: Alstonville district's best known and oldest residents! Mrs. Gertrude Minia Cooke (78), of "Bellington," Alstonville, died Lismore on Sunday night. Mrs. Cooke had lived at Alstonville for nearly 40 years and had resided at Kempsey and Lismore before settling at Alstonville. Mrs. Cooke was well known and esteemed for her work for charitable and patriotic organisations. She was a foundation member of the committee which founded the North Coast Children's Home at Lismore. She was an ardent member of the Red Cross Society and one of i its foremost workers. In fact, there were few charities which did not benefit from her. She was always a keen, member of 'the Church of England and its various works, particularly the women's guild. Mr. Cooke! died in 1950. Mrs. Cooke is survived by two sons, Mr. George Cooke, of., Kempsey, and Mr. Jack Cooke, of Alstonville, and three daughters, Mrs. A. Ware, of Lismore; Mrs. J. Cawley, of Brunswick Heads:' and Mrs. R. Exton, of Rosebank.
