Francis Blomefield wrote:

"John Lestrange, Esq. son of Sir John, married Alice, daughter and heir of Nicholas Beman, by Maud his wife, daughter and heir of John Pike, and Eleanore his wife, daughter and heir of Sir William de Rushbrook, of Suffolk, by Joan his wife, daughter of Walter Wells, Esq. lord of Raine Parva in Essex, by Isabel his wife, sister of Edmund de Kemseck, lord of Samford, and of Felstead in Essex, which Walter died in the 19th of Edward II. and was descended of the noble family of the Lord Wells in Lincolnshire."

Such a person does appear in 15th century records with the spelling Beman, and associated with Pakenham. He was alive in 1401,^[1] 1416.^[2] and 1421/2^[3] And he was dead in 1432.^[4]

There is also this record dated 31 Oct 1485:^[5]

John Bacon to Henry Le Strange Settlement of lands etc. in Heacham, Holme Ringstead and Hunstanton on said Henry and heirs of his body remainder to like heirs of Alice daughter of Nicholas Beaman with divers remainders over

Other records from this period and earlier mention the name Abel Beman in this area, which probably represents a name that was used more than once in the family of Nicholas.
