Peter Clepper's father is believed to be Jacob Benjamin Klepper 1741 – 1828. Jacob arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1749 with his parents, when he was 8 years old, from the Palatine States in what is now Germany. He married Rebecca J "Betsy" Ross 1743 – 1830 in Philadelphia on June 12. Peter was the 12th child born to this union. His siblings were: Samuel Calip Klepper 1761 – 1852; Melissa Klepper 1763 – 1770; Christina Klepper 1764; Rebecca Betsy Klepper 1765 – 1778; Augustus Phillip Klepper 1771 – 1852; George Klepper 1771 – 1812; David Klepper 1780; Frederick Klepper 1780 – 1830; Barbara Klepper 1785 – 1853; Jacob Benjamin Klepper, Jr. 1790 – 1862; John K Klepper 1792 – 1829; Henry Klepper 1796 – 1888; Michael Klepper 1798 – 1888; Christina Klepper 1802; Joseph Bach Klepper 1804-1884.
Peter was born 1792 in Stanley Valley, Hawkins Co., Tennessee.
At age 20 Peter enlisted as a Private in the 2 REG'T (LILLARD'S) EAST TENNESSEE serving in the war of 1812 under Andy Jackson. Family lore is that Peter spelled his name with a C because that was the way Andy Jackson did it and that made "it good enough for me."
On June 13, 1813 he married Katherine Myers in Stanley Valley. They had 10 children in the next 22 years. They were: Barnabus M. Klepper 1813 – 1885; Mary "Polly" Klepper 1816 – 1899; William Klepper 1819 – 1894; Nancy Klepper 1822 - 1898; Elizabeth (Betty) Klepper 1824-1920;Eliza Jane Klepper 1825 – 1889; Catherine Ann Klepper 1828 – 1920; Lurana (Loureen) Klepper 1830 – 1896; John M. Klepper 1832 – 1914; and Margaret (Peggy) Klepper 1835 – 1913.
On Feb. 15, 1835, Katherine gave birth to her last baby, Margaret, and on March 1, Peter lost his wife. Peter gathered his children and friends to the grave site in Hickory Cove to bid his dearly beloved Katherine to Rest in Peace.
About 3 years later Peter chose another wife. He married Mary Pilant, and from this union 8 children were born. They were: Susan Klepper 1839–1925;Joseph Klepper 1841– 1875; Cornelius Klepper 1843–1863; Phoebe Klepper 1845-1905; Francis Marion Klepper 1847–1945; Martha Ellen Klepper 1848–1905; Sarah Klepper 1852-1922, and Barbara Klepper 1855-1891.
Two of Peter's sons, Joseph and Cornelius, proceeded him in death. The Lord called Peter home on Dec. 31, 1876. He lived for over half his life in the beautiful Hickory Cove which is part of southern Stanley Valley, Tennessee. He purchased a large farm at the foot of the Devil's Nose and lived the latter part of his life there. He was buried on that farm in the Klepper Cemetery, atop a steep hill, north of Striggersville, Tennessee, on Devil's Nose Rd. Hawkins Co., Tennessee.
On 1 Jan. 1877, his wife, children, and friends gathered around his coffin, at the Cemetery to bid beloved Peter farewell and God Speed.
