Biography

Cynthia Holland was born in 1791, in Rutherford county, North Carolina, a daughter of Major James B. Holland and Sarah Gilbert. On April 5, 1811, in Maury county, Tennessee, Cythina married Tyree Rodes, born on December 24, 1771, in Albemarle county, Virginia, a son of John Rodes and Sarah Harris. ^[1] Major Holland, born 1754, in Anson county, North Carolina migrated with his family to Maury county, Tennessee, where he died May 19, 1823. The Will was recorded Recorded 8 Jan. 1824. ^[2] In his Will, James Holland names his wife, daughter Cynthia Rhodes : daughter Sally Mira : son James : three daughters, Sally Mira, Selina Sophia, and Polly Louisa : wife executrix : my son James and my two sons-in-law Tyree Rhodes and Hardin Perkins, executors. 25 Feb. 1816. Signed James Holland. Witnesses : Joseph Herndon, James C. O'Riely.

• Sarah Myra Rodes, born October 18, 1812, in Giles county, Tennessee, died March 12, 1865, in Giles county, Tennessee, married 1) John Harper Rivers and 2) Joseph Trotter ^[3]

• James Holland Rodes, born 1814, in Giles county, Tennessee, died April 19, 1824, in Giles county, Tennessee ^[4]

• Robert Rodes, born June 24, 1816, in Giles county, Tennessee, died October 23, 1887, in Giles county, Tennessee, married Sarah Elizabeth Carter ^[5]

• Sophia Selina Rhodes, born 1818, died 1820 ^[6]

• Tyree Rodes, Jr. born July 18, 1821, died July 28, 1858, married Jane Elizabeth Murrell ^[7]

Tyree Rodes, Sr. died July 17, 1827, at the age of 55, and is buried in the Rodes Cemetery at Clifton Place, Pulaski, Giles county, Tennessee. ^[8] After his death, Cynthia (Holland) Rodes married Peter Booker. Cynthia is found on the 1860 census, living in the household of her son, Robert Rodes and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Carter and their children. ^[9]

Cynthia died on July 7, 1863, at the age of 64 years and is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery, in Pulaski, Giles county, Tennessee. This is the same cemetery where her daughter, Sara Myra Rodes is buried. ^[10]
