Marque Lesslie Jackson was born in Anniston, Alabama in 1896.[1][2] He was the son of Annie Louise and William Jackson.
Marque served in the 92nd Infantry Division in World War I.[3] The 92nd Infantry Division (92nd Division, WWI) was an African-American infantry division of the United States Army that served in both World War I and World War II.
He attained the rank of Sergeant in the 325th Field Signal Battalion, 92nd Infantry Division, Company B.[4] This was an elite group, considered to be one of the best-educated battalions in the Army. The Field Signal Corps maintained communications between the front lines and the division headquarters. Company B was the wire company.
