From - Meriden Daily Republican, 9 Jun 1897: "SCHMELTER A marriage license was issued last night to Anton Protrowskl and Miss Teresa Schmelter Miss Schmelter was under age and as she was a foreigner and without parents in this country she had to secure the consent of the selectmen When application was made to Selectman Ellsbree and while the groom was out looking for the necessary proof that the girl's parents did not live here the selectman Jokingly advised the girl to wait a year before being married She took the Joke seriously and stated her entire willingness to follow his advice but when the groom returned with the necessary information she changed her mind."
