Biography

In Brief
Francis A Shanley, son of Michael Shanley and Hannah Moran, was born at Shancurry, Drumshanbo, Leitrim County, Ireland on 24 June 1881,[1] baptized at Drumshanbo, Leitrim County, Ireland on 25 June 1881 (register is annotated with a reference to St. Peter's, Danbury, Conn),[1] and he died at Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut on 3 June 1952 (leaving only daughter Christine G Forlastro of 272 Southern Blvd).[2] He was buried at Danbury, Fairfield County, Connecticut (St Peter's Cemetery).[3]

There was a family tradition that Frank, the youngest child in the family, was born on the ship on the way to America, however this is clearly mistaken, given his birth is on record in Ireland and he was included in the passenger list in 1882.[4]

He married Mary E Roach.[5] She was the daughter of John L and Johanna (Unknown) Roach, born in Connecticut in January 1886,[6] and she died at Danbury on 5 May 1952 (Age: 64 Years).[7]

He was living at Danbury in 1900;[8] at Danbury Ward 4, Fairfield County, Connecticut in 1910;[9] and at Danbury in 1913,[10] in 1915,[11] in January 1928,[12] in 1930,[13] on 1 April 1940,[14] and in 1952.[5]

Additional Facts

He arrived in the USA on 28 April 1882, in New York, on the ship SS Lake Champlain.[13]

He waorked as a hatter at Mallory Hats.[13]

He was Roman Catholic.[5]
